An apple a day...

Last night Ben & I went to the grocery store after work. Peter stayed home with Haley. We got home about 7pm and Haley had just taken Peter out of the bathtub. I put the groceries away while Haley gave him a new diaper and PJ's. When I was all done, I collapsed on the couch. Haley & I chatted for a little bit. In the meantime, Peter went over to the fridge, opened it up, slid out the drawer and proceeded to get an apple. (His new favorite word is "apple") I noticed this when he was about halfway done with his mission. I was too tired to fight with him so I let him keep the apple, thinking that he'll never eat it, he'll just play with it.

Once again, I was wrong. That seems to be a common theme on this blog, doesn't it?

Peter climbed up on the couch right next to me and ate the apple. It wasn't peeled or anything...he just bit right in and ate the entire thing! The best part was when he wanted to take a break he walked around with it under his arm (in his armpit). We always peel his apples for him. Well I guess he proved to us that he is independent enough to go without peeling! Here are some pics. He is so funny!

Haircut...

It has been soooo long since I've posted. Life has been VERY chaotic, as usual. I don't think we've had a free weekend in 6 months (or so it seems).

Yesterday (Sunday) was a big day for us! Peter got his first "big boy" haircut. I've been cutting his hair with scissors and/or an electric buzzer his entire life but recently it has been looking BAD...shaggy, sticking up, growing over his ears, helmet head, etc. And the 2 years of chopping at it when he isn't looking has caught up with us. He hates it when I try to cut his hair. He absolutely FREAKS out. I didn't want to take him in so young and have him freak at a salon but I heard of a place called "The Buzz". It is in the mall and it is a bar and salon. They serve beer and food so that you can drink and get your hair cut at the same time or the person waiting for you (like your husband) can sit and have a beer while you beautify. Anyways, for $13 they give your child a beverage, snack, toy and then he/she gets to watch cartoons on a flat-screen TV connected to the mirror in front of the chair. So I thought that if Peter got some special treatment during his first real haircut, he might not mind it so much and then I could just continue at home and only go to the salon once a year or so for a touch-up haircut.

Well, I was completely wrong.

All 3 of us went to the mall about a half hour before his appointment. We rode on the giant carousel first and walked around a little bit to get him comfortable and in a really good mood. (See the video below)

Then we went into the salon early with hopes that he would watch other people getting their hair cut and decide that it wasn't so bad. As I said before: I was completely wrong. The men and women getting their hair done didn't mind and we watched and talked about it a lot. Peter kept saying "Uh oh" and "Buh-Bye" every time some hair would drop on the floor. It was cute. :)

Then it was his turn. We put him on the padded booster and the crying and screaming began. So I put him on my lap and the stylist raced away to get it done quickly...Peter screamed and screamed and screamed. At one point the stylist stopped and gave me a look of horror. I thought "There must be blood"...but I look down and Peter had a big booger hanging out of his nose and there was a booger on my arm. The lady ran away fast, grabbed a kleenex and came dashing back...I said "You stopped for a booger?" She said, "Well of course" (with the same look of horror on her face). I then said, "You don't have any children, do you!?!" She then laughed and said "No way!" (As if we couldn't figure that one out by her reaction.)

The whole thing didn't even take 15 minutes. We got done, cleaned up, paid and then I took a picture of Peter & Daddy outside the salon. He wasn't too thrilled about that but here it is...

Then a photo when we got in the van...(not happy over this one either)

Then we went out to eat at El Mazatlan. Peter was finally happy when we got there. Authentic Mexican food must have been what he wanted in the first place. (NOT)

Notice his haircut in the last picture? That's the only good one I could get.

So "cheers" to another crazy adventure from the Land of the Gergens!
